Hello Cunninghams Avalon Beach!

06 July 2021

In exciting news for the Cunninghams team and our clients, we are thrilled to announce that Cunninghams Avalon Beach will be the latest addition to our evolving team.

After 30 years in business, and countless properties sold in the Upper Northern Beaches area, we have made the move and partnered with Jonathan Fletcher to open our newest office on Avalon Parade in early August this year.

John Cunningham:

Hi, it’s John Cunningham here at Avalon beach with Jonathan Fletcher. So Jonathan, we’ve got some pretty exciting news to announce.

Jonathan Fletcher:

Very exciting news. After 30 years, Cunninghams on the Northern Beaches, Cunninghams is making a move to Avalon Beach. I guess my question to you, John is, why now? Why now?

John Cunningham:

Look, it’s an interesting question. We’ve been working this whole region actually for that full 30 years, but mainly at the southern end of the Northern Beaches, from, you know that whole Manly to Narrabeen space. But we’ve been doing a lot of business up here. We’ve got a lot of clients coming to and fro, there’s massive migration between the two. We thought, look the reality is we are a Northern Beaches agency, we’re a Northern Beaches brand. I think we’re a very evocative of the Northern Beaches, so why not come up here and do it? And it was all about finding the right person, and I think we found the right person. Actually, I don’t think, I know we found the right person. So welcome onboard Jonathan.

Jonathan Fletcher:

Thank you very much.

John Cunningham:

So explain a little bit why Cunninghams?

Jonathan Fletcher:

Well, I mean from my perspective it’s been a bit of a slow process with Cunninghams in that we’ve been getting to know each other. From the outside looking in Cunninghams is very much an embracing business. It’s all about embracing its staff, building up its staff and encouraging them, empowering them, and I think that transposes over to how we treat our clients. You know we look after our clients in a slightly different fashion. I mean, you refer to it as the Cunninghams’ way.

John Cunningham:

Yep. Yep.

Jonathan Fletcher:

So tell me a little bit more about the Cunninghams’ way.

John Cunningham:

Well look, that’s something that we started really giving a lot of thought to when we started the business, was how are we going to deal with people. Because people is our business. So we’ve got two lots of people., We’ve got the internal team and we’ve got the external client, and so for us, it was all about focusing on their outcomes. How do we look after people, achieve their needs, achieve their goals, and then we’re looked after. Instead of the other way around, I think a lot of businesses tend to focus inward, we look at what we can do to help people and that’s been the basis, so the way that we do business, the manner in which we do business is the keystone to our success.

Jonathan Fletcher:

I’ve got to say, they’re the fundamental reasons why and what drew me to Cunninghams, and I think that’s the same thing that draws the clients to Cunninghams.

John Cunningham:

Look, it is, it is Jonathan. I think over the years of 30 years in business and growing to be the largest residential agency, both sales and leasing on the Northern Beaches has come about by looking after people.

Jonathan Fletcher:

That’s something that’s organically happened.

John Cunningham:

It’s a byproduct. You know you look after people and you’re looked after. So I think, yeah, the by-product of what we do is that we’ve become successful. That enables us to actually provide clients with a better experience. Now we’ve found over the years that we’ve got great people working for us, really good people, good humans who are well-skilled, plenty of knowledge, that they can actually go into a client situation with good trusted advice. So when you get the advice right, the client gets a great experience and the result becomes outstanding. But the key for us again, as I said was about right people. So we’re going to be building a team around our great location in Avalon Parade.

Jonathan Fletcher:

We’re very excited about that, and that will come to fruition, what, late July early August?

John Cunningham:

Yeah, we’re hoping that sometime early August, that we’ll be up and running. For those people up here that really don’t know who we are, and there’ll be a lot of people that don’t – 30 years in operation. We started in Balgowlah, we then opened a Manly office, and then opened a Dee Why office. So for us, the natural progression was to come up here and we found a massive transition from people from the lower Northern Beaches to the upper Northern Beaches. So our market, our demographic is already there, and I think that’ll just feed perfectly into the two-way traffic that occurs in that space. So we think it’s a perfect fit and will really complete that picture from what we’ll call Harbour to Bay.

Jonathan Fletcher:

That’s great.

John Cunningham:

That’s a great place to occupy. So Jonathan Cunninghams’ mantra is “Find. Love. Live.” Tell us about your life, what’s your background?

Jonathan Fletcher:

So, taking on that tagline, so to speak, it’s that “Find. Love. Live.” We get to live where we work, which is really exciting. You know, I started in real estate back in 2003 with another agency before moving to London in 2007. I grew up here my whole life, I went to school here. It wasn’t till I came back, that I realized that we grew up in one of the most amazing places in all the world, and got back into real estate about five years ago, and I’ve purchased and I live locally, and I’ve got three boys. We all live and work locally. There’s a lot of energy going on there. My wife and I are raising those kids and the kids got Avalon Primary where I went as a kid.

John Cunningham:

So Jonathan, tell me, what is it about Avalon Beach and its surrounds that you really love?

Jonathan Fletcher:

We live in a village here.

John Cunningham:

Right, yeah.

Jonathan Fletcher:

And that comes with its pros and cons. We’re somewhat a little bit isolated beyond the bends, but at the same time it’s beautiful, it’s lovely, and it’s a great opportunity for people to have community, and that’s exciting and I’m excited to be a part of it.

John Cunningham:

Well, we’re excited to have you. Welcome aboard!
